Farm to Family CSA Program

Established in 2010 as a partnership between the Bowdoin Street Health Center and The Food Project, the Farm to Family Program connects the BIDMC and MASCO community with fresh, locally-grown produce while supporting access to healthy food to low-income families.  Sponsor shareholders are employees of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Bowdoin Street Health Center, and other Longwood Medical Area facilities.  With their support, The Food Project delivers boxes of farm-fresh produce to families in the Bowdoin Street neighborhood of Dorchester at a reduced rate.  Since the program’s inception, participants have collectively brought home $95,000 worth of delicious, fresh, locally-grown produce!

Early Bird Discount! Sponsors who register prior to March 1st receive $50 OFF!

For $27.50 per week for 20 weeks, employees receive a box of fruits and vegetables from Ward’s Berry Farm in Sharon, MA.   The weekly fee includes $22.50 worth of produce plus a $5 voluntary, tax-deductible donation toward the F2F Program.  What’s in the box?  Check out the Harvest Calendar to get an idea of what to expect.  The total cost for the season is $550 to be paid in advance or in two installments.

The donations of sponsor shareholders help to subsidize weekly farm boxes for low-income families.  The boxes, which contain $15-worth of produce grown on The Food Project’s farm in Lincoln, MA, are distributed to families for just $5 per week.  SNAP benefits (formerly known as food stamps) can be used for the purchase of farm boxes.Families pick up their produce at partnering community agencies throughout the neighborhood including Geneva Avenue Head Start, Catholic Charities Teen Center at St. Peters, ABCD Dorchester Neighborhood Service Center, and the Dorchester CARES Family Resource Center.

Additionally, these generous contributions support a pilot endeavor to provide Healthy Food Prescriptions to at-risk patients of the health center, enabling them to improve their nutrition and overall wellness.
